About WASH Institute

WASH Institute was established in Kodaikanal during the year 2008, is a registered non-profit technical, training, research and development organization dedicated to providing practical solutions to a wide range of water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental issues in India. Over the years, WASH Institute has carved its niche through its quality training programs, Technical Assistance programs to the Government of India, grassroots programs, and research & advocacy.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute) with the support of USAID is rolling out a National level training program in FSSM titled as “Skill Development in Fecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM) in India”. The project aims to increase the number of skilled professionals in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector at state, city and town levels across India and enhance access to people in safely managed disposal services through Fecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM). In order to achieve this, WASH Institute proposes conducting various capacity building trainings/certificate courses on FSSM and WWM across India through classroom training/online training.


Objectives of the USAID project

1. Building capacities of Government workforce involved in FSSM & Waste Water Management for effective service delivery.

2. Enabling a sustainable ecosystem of skilled workforce for FSSM & Waste Water Management by engaging NGOs, private & public sector professionals.

3. Fostering a multi-stakeholder partnership, leading to increased private sector engagement & investment in FSSM & Waste Water Management.

WASH Institute operates through a doing, learning, codifying, disseminating model for impact creation with all three major activity streams inter-linked for knowledge generation followed by scaling of impact.
